The Killers Cover Warren Zevon "Lawyers, Guns and Money" | Rock Hall 2025 Induction

The Killers perform "Lawyers, Guns and Money" in tribute to Warren Zevon at the 2025 Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony, joined by legendary session guitarist Waddy Wachtel, who played on all seven of Warren Zevon's studio albums and co-produced three. The performance followed an emotional induction speech by David Letterman, who recalled Warren Zevon's final Late Show appearance in September 2002 — just months before his death from mesothelioma at age 56. During that last visit, Warren Zevon offered the advice that became his epitaph: "Enjoy every sandwich." After the taping, Warren Zevon handed Letterman a guitar — a Modulus Blackknife — and told him, "Take care of this for me." Twenty-two years later, David Letterman brought that same guitar to the Rock Hall stage. "This is the guitar," he told the crowd. "And tonight, by God, it's going back to work." He handed it to Killers guitarist Dave Keuning, who played it throughout the performance. Brandon Flowers delivered an inspired vocal take on the 1978 Excitable Boy deep cut, working in a few unmistakable "Ah-oooh!" howls near the end — a nod to "Werewolves of London" that brought the room to its feet. Warren Zevon was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in the Musical Influence category. He had been eligible for the Hall for nine years before his death and was not nominated until 2023. His son Jordan was in attendance to accept the honor.
