Hiking the Carnarvon Great Walk Solo

2.5 days hiking the Carnarvon Great Walk in Central QLD. I was planning on 3 nights and 4 days however after arriving at the planned campsites around lunchtime I didn't want to hang around the camp all afternoon. Felt amazing and was in a solid groove so I just kept going. . Spotted emu's (with plenty of babies), 1 pig (off camera), 1 brumby (off camera), goannas, heaps of wallabies and kangaroos, lizard's and questionable rustling in the bushes, no snakes however I reckon plenty would have spotted me! . Left Visitors Centre Thursday 01/10/20 at 5am, got to Battleship Spur by 9am for morning tea. Arrived at Gads campsite at 12pm for lunch Setup camp at West Branch by 4:45pm. . Left West Branch at 7am 02/10/20 got to Consuelo campsite at 11:25am for lunch. Arrived at Cabbage Tree campsite by 3:30pm . Left Cabbage Tree at 7am 03/10/20 to arrive at the Visitors Centre by 11:30am. . 87k's with 4.45km/h average pace. Was definitely not planning on going that quickly however being on my own and in that groove was such a great feeling! I kept pushing up those tough climbs in the first day and wondering how far I could go with a 20+kg pack. Definitely wouldn't want to do it any later in the year, it's really starting to heat up out there. Carried 6L of water moving between campsites which worked out ideal for my intake, each campsite has reliable tank water to be treated before consumption. . My shoes were starting to fall apart by West Branch which resulted in no cushioning on the soles of my feet. Luckily a few bandages from the kit and spare folded up socks helped tremendously. The next long hike I do I'll be investing in some hiking poles to take some pressure off the lower body and also a spare set of quality comfy insoles. .
