The Prey (1983) Slasher Movie Review (Underrated Film)
The Prey is a 1983 slasher film, though filmed in 1980, directed by pornographic director Edwin Brown and produced by his wife, Summer. Starring alongside Debbie Thureson, Lori Lethin, Steve Bond and Jackson Bostwick, this was to be Jackie Coogan’s final film. The director/producer team was inspired by Carpenter’s ‘Halloween’ and Craven’s ‘The Hills Have Eyes’, and were told to make a ‘horror film in the woods’, which was, surprisingly at the time, not common. Though considered an underrated gem, for its lack of dialogue, slow pacing and usage of stick footage, it has conversely been criticized for the same reasons. 32 years after a devastating forest fire in the Rocky Mountains, three teenage couples set out for a weekend of camping and are stalked and killed by a very large, angry, and deformed killer.
