Note: The bass distortion in some of the songs are in the original mix (not caused by the soundcard and/or recording). The Yamaha YMF71x ISA soundcards support WSS (Windows Sound System) for 16-bit, 44.1 kHz playback in MS-DOS. Some games support this, making the sound quality equal to, or slightly better than Sound Blaster 16. MPXPLAY also supports WSS. All you have to do is to start MPXPLAY with the command -scs WSS. The proper playback of 16/44 is verified with RMAA (playing the test tone in MPXPLAY and recording the analog output on a modern PC). The frequency response is actually very flat, and the distorsion is mostly below -80 dB. (0.01 - 0.02%). While my recording is lossless, it will be ruined by Youtube when uploading. Also, the files used (from Youtube Music Library) are lossy encoded at 320kbit MP3. The source material also contains some clipping/distortion.
