Lare Lare - Iranian Song

Arrangement by Farya Faraji, vocals by Kelareh Kabiri. Another song in my native language from my home region of Mazandaran. My mother provided the vocals for this song, giving an authentic example of the regional singing style of Mazandarani villages, which uses a far shriller, rawer sound than the more refined "avaz" of classical Persian music from the south. The dialect used here is the Sari variant of the Mazandarani language, a northwestern Iranian language closely related to Gilaki and more distantly related to Persian. Lyrics (romanised): Del bar jān te-titi moune behāri, yārā, Detā dasmāl hedāyi yādegāri jānā, Detā dasmāl hedāyi, vaghte morden yārā, Attāre sar beelem, attāre gali jānā. Lāre lāre, lāre, del bayye pāre, lāre, Del khāne bavinem, tere devāre, lāre. Sar hedāme, sedāye lalevāre, yārā, Āsheghi hāle, bā Maryam telāre jānā, Te be mou hen, behāre bou-re yārn-e, yārā, Bakhoundem katouli, bā tālebā-re, jānā. Lāre lāre, lāre, del bayye pāre, lāre, Del khāne bavinem, tere devāre, lāre. Translation: My love, you are like the flowers of spring, Two handkerchiefs you gave me as a present, Two handkerchiefs, at the time of death, I shall tie around my head and around my throat. My heart will tear for you, my love, I wish to see you once more. I play the lalevār flute, How sweet is golden Maryam's love! Your hair bears the smell of spring, I sing katouli and tālebā for you. My heart will tear for you, my love, I wish to see you once more. "Lāre" is rather untranslatable and means something along the lines of "may all your troubles be mine, may I suffer for you," it's more of a poetic interjection denoting love, more than anything too specific. Katouli and tālebā are two musical genres from Northern Iran.
