This buttercream frosting recipe uses traditional ratios to achieve a delicious buttercream which is perfect for frosting cakes and cupcakes. The recipe is for both a vanilla buttercream and then the option for adding chocolate to make a dreamy chocolate buttercream – it is quick, easy and anyone can make it at home. You don’t need a stand mixer to make this buttercream, you can use a hand-held electric mixer or make it by hand with a spoon and mixing bowl. Recipe is for to crumb coat, fill and frost a 4-layer 8 -inch cake or 24 cupcakes – simply half this for a 2-layer cake or 12 cupcakes! For a 2 layer, 8-inch cake or 12 cupcakes: 500g icing sugar 250g salted butter 1Tbsp (15ml) milk + 1 Tsp (5ml) Vanilla Extract Optional: 40g chocolate drops (melted) or you can add a gel colour of your choice! For a 4 layer, 8-inch cake or 24 cupcakes: 1000g icing sugar 500g salted butter 2Tbsp (30ml) milk + 2 Tsp (10ml) Vanilla Extract Optional: 75g chocolate drops (melted) or you can add a gel colour of your choice!
