On 4th September 1998 Kurisumudy was declared an Archdiocesan Shrine and on 11th of February in 2004 it was declared an International Shrine. The Pope Pius V on 20th August 1909 granted through an indult plenary indulgence, who visit the pilgrim Centre of St. Thomas. Pope John II has renewed it and granted plenary indulgence to those are unable to climb Kurisumudy who visit the mother Church. The present church is built in Indian art and Gothic architecture. The new church is of 12186 square feet in width. The inside and portico of the church is paneled with teak wood. The inside of the church is simply marvelous. Anybody get a peaceful atmosphere for prayer. Inside the Church many more attractions like historical museum of St. Thomas, missionary activities etc. are in the mind of Church authorities.
