By the time the hill is climbed, the sun begins to rise over the city. The walk continues to Hokura Shrine, a small shrine located on the slope of Mount Rokko. Hokura Shrine is known for its beautiful view over Kobe and Osaka Bay, and in early spring the plum blossoms in the shrine garden quietly welcome visitors. Along the approach to the shrine stand twelve stone statues representing the animals of the Japanese zodiac. From the shrine grounds, the view opens toward the city and the sea beyond.
