Local Spaniard Shows me UNESCO World Heritage Site (ALCALÁ de HENARES) Miguel Cervantes, Don Quixote Alcalá de Henares is a profoundly historical city 22km Northeast of Madrid and home possibly the most famous Spanish author from the golden age of literature, Miguel de Cervantes. It's also home to a UNESCO World Heritage Site (the historical center) and one of the oldest and most prestigious universities in the western world. In fact, it was the worlds first planned university city, and served as a model for many of the universities in Europe and the rest of the Western World. Additionally, Christopher Columbus in the 1480s, Christopher Columbus had his first meeting with the Catholic Kings, King Ferdinand II of Aragon and his wife Queen Isabella I of Castile, who funded his voyages to The Americas for the discovery of the New World, an important theme in the future of my channel. My local Spanish friend meets me in the city and shows me the city. *I am not a historian, so my knowledge of this place is very limited, it's more of a walking tour of the city with my friend than a historical critique and analysis of the city.
