In this video I show what happens at a vigil with The Save Movement. This vigil was at Wouters Slachterij, De Hoef, The Netherlands on May 29th 2018. You will see images of animals, but no images of slaughter. Last week I attended the 5th vigil at De Hoef with The Save Movement. I made a video to show you why we do this and what we do. Thank you Mikki for organizing this vigil! Vigils are a way to bear witness to the animals that are victims of the animal industry. When you only see videos of the animals, sometimes people forget that the victims in this situation are actually individuals. It's easier to think of them as a group, like 'sheep' or 'cows' or 'beef cattle'. This is more abstract and makes it easy to distance yourself from the situation. By going to a vigil you get to look in the eyes of an individual and connect with them. This also makes it very hard to bear, because you know that a few hours from now these beautiful creatures will be killed, dismembered, boxed and sold as 'food'. We got flowers from Terra Tera for free. The flowers were put outside of the slaughterhouse to memorialize the victims of this day. To me it was very respectful. This vigil was a little off. It might be a coincidence, but during the time we were there, we didn't see any trucks for this slaughterhouse and exactly when the vigil was finished, a new trailer with sheep arrived. The slaughterhouse claims that they cannot control when the trucks arrive. Also the pens of the slaughterhouse were already full before we got there. To compensate this a few of our activist(Wike, Mikki and Loretta) got to go inside. They bore witness to cows that were in the waiting line to be slaughtered. A slaughterhouse worker was beating one of the cows with a stick to make her go inside the slaughterhouse. She didn't want to go💔. It's awful to see these innocent animals face this. I cannot imagine being in their position. As much as it hurts me to see all of this, these beautiful animals are the ones that really suffer. Would you like to attend a vigil?
