Sir Peter Paul Rubens (1577-1640) was one of the most influential artists of the 17th century and one of the great painters of post-Renaissance Europe. He was the central figure of the Flemish Baroque school of painting and he brought genre painting into a new age of its own. He did this thought a dynamic interdisciplinary approach to his art; combining classical erudition - having been given a humanistic education before initiating his artistic training - with his ability to absorb aesthetic impressions from classical, Renaissance and the contemporary art of his day across Europe. This Drawing From History Workshop Centres on Rubens' early life, his eclectic background and analyses two of his early works.
