Tai "Gonzo" Alonzo, a former professional surfer who has fallen on hard times after his college scholarship is cut. With his beloved van impounded and a daughter to support, Tai is forced to take his first "real" job as a surf instructor at the Ha'i Nalu Cottages, a struggling, family-run beachfront hotel in Hawaii. As he tries to scrape by, Tai finds himself juggling a multitude of roles beyond his initial job—he becomes a handyman, a substitute yoga and tennis pro, and even a fire-knife dancer. His new mission becomes intertwined with the fate of the hotel itself, as he and his misfit colleagues must work together to save it from a corrupt county inspector and an unscrupulous developer. The film charts Tai's journey of redemption as he tries to get his life back on track, support his family, and help his new friends.
