For over two years I have prided myself on living for as cheaply as I possibly could, with the stated goal of becoming financially independent and debt-free by the time I turn 24. That entire goal, and my general way of living, began when I learned one crucial piece of advice all the way back in my sophomore year of college (only two years ago). That advice, the tidbit of information that I feel fortunate to have learned when I did, changed the way I look at money. It forever altered my perspective of value, and showed me how minimalism (specifically, financial minimalism) could improve my life for the better. It showed me that saving a few dollars today could lead to far more money in the future, and through the powers of compound interest I could take those few dollars and turn them into something much, much greater. While this isn't a how-to, comprehensive guide to becoming a financial minimalist, it hopefully shows everyone how living a frugal lifestyle can be incredibly valuable in the long run. Even if you're strapped with a seemingly insurmountable amount of debt (college debt, student loans, a mortgage, etc) financial independence is achievable. In fact, being financially free is closer than you know. Like I said in the video, it would be amazing if everybody would comment down below with the initial advice/information/teaching that prompted them to start down the road of understanding personal finance! It would be so cool to see how other people discovered the true value of minimalism, and I would really love to interact with you guys and go over those exact processes. Hope everybody has an amazing day!
