Welcome to another teaching for Hoodoo Heritage Month—a month where we honor the roots, culture, and power of our traditions, especially through the lens of Gullah Geechee and Lowcountry life. In this week’s video, I’m combining two powerful teachings: 1. The Power of Word Conjure Not all conjure is physical. In fact, some of the deepest spiritual work our people ever did came from the mouth. Spoken word. Declarations. Blessings and curses. We’ll talk about how our elders used their tongues to speak life, bind protection, and cast out harm—without ever lighting a candle. This is the tradition of speaking over your food, praying over your children, declaring over the land, and knowing that “The Lord will make a way somehow” wasn’t just a saying—it was a spell. 2. Protection Work: How Our People Stayed Spiritually Covered So many people want to jump into rootwork but skip the basics. Truth is, Hoodoo is protection work. It was born in response to violence, bondage, and oppression. We’ll look at spiritual baths, house protection (like sweeping, laying down powder, or placing something behind the door), and how the most sacred protection tools came from the kitchen, the land, and the body. 👣 Whether you’re reconnecting with your roots or learning for the first time, this is your reminder that conjure is in your bones.
