Close up of counting machine STORYLINE: Federal police at Mexico City's international airport on Wednesday seized over one million US dollars in cash which had been packed into cans labelled as chilli peppers. The cash was divided into 17 sealed cans, making each can of hot "chillies" worth 60-thousand US dollars, the Mexican federal police reported in a press statement. A Colombian man, identified as Edgar Victoria Abadia, was trying to board a flight to Cali, Colombia carrying two suitcases with the cans inside. However, a pre-flight screening of the bags aroused Mexican inspectors' suspicions. The cans were opened and a total of 1,026,443 US dollars was found inside. The Mexico City airport is thought to be being used by drug traffickers to ship cocaine from Colombia and repatriate drug profits. On Sunday, Mexican prosecutors announced they had seized 4.6 (m) million US dollars in cash hidden inside two air compressors at the airport. The equipment was being shipped to Colombia when it was discovered inside a truck at the airport. Three people inside the truck were arrested.
