Original video: • 関白宣言 This is Sada Masashi's most famous song and a very controversial one at that. It has been met with a lot of criticism from feminists and several artists have released songs as a reply to this song. It's about a man declaring his dominance when proposing to a woman, making a list of unreasonable requests that adhere to gender roles that were outdated even when the song released. But in my opinion, the song gets a lot of undeserved flak because many misunderstand the satirical nature of the lyrics. Sada Masashi was inspired to write this song when the owner of the bar he used to frequent, an old woman twice his age, kept ranting about how there were no real men left anymore and asked him to write a song about a real man. This is Sada Masashi's satirical depiction of such a man, or rather, a man who's doing his best to pretend to be such a man. The demands he makes of his future wife are over the top, and lines like "Be clever when dealing with your mother- and sister-in-law, it should be an easy thing to do, just love them." make it obvious that he knows how absurd he's being. If anything, it's an insecure man who's trying to assert his dominance over his future wife before their marriage and has an extremely clumsy way of expressing his feelings. I will translate the song 関白失脚 (Downfall of Dominance) next, which depicts the fate of the same man a few decades into the marriage and shows the disparity between his expectations and reality. Also, check out the songs 部屋とYシャツと私 (Our Room, your White Shirts, and I) by Hiramatsu Eri and トリセツ (User Manual) by Nishino Kana. They were inspired by this song and do the same thing from the perspective of a woman. This video is not monetized and all ad revenue goes to the original video.
