Pediatric Grand Rounds (CME) - The Vaping Phenomenon: What it is, Why it Happened, and What you Can Do About it Bonnie Halpern-Felsher, PhD Professor of Pediatrics Professor (By courtesy), Health Research & Policy Director of Research, Division of Adolescent Medicine Founder and Executive Director, Tobacco Prevention Toolkit and the Cannabis Awareness and Prevention Toolkit. Session Description E-cigarettes including the new pod-based products made popular by Juuls have entered the global market, and adolescents and young adults are now using these products more often than combustible cigarettes. This presentation will provide detailed information on e-cigarettes, nicotine levels in these products, addiction, and other health effects. The presentation will also provide information on reasons for adolescent use of these products, including flavors, appeal, marketing, perceived reduced harm, stress, anxiety, and depression, and misperceptions. I will also provide evidence-based resources that can be used to help prevent and reduce youth use of e-cigarettes, as well as advocacy efforts occurring in the US to reduce vaping use. Education Goals Attendees will learn about the new tobacco and e-cigarette products on the market, will be able to identify them, and will understand the risks of these products Understand reasons why youth are using these products Learn ways to better screen and counsel youth about these products Understand advocacy efforts taking place
