Today, we’re taking a closer look at Sarah, the wife of Abraham. More than just her outward beauty—though she was indeed described as stunning—Sarah’s story reveals a woman of depth, faith, and complexity. As we explore her character, we’ll uncover valuable lessons from her strengths, struggles, and growth. SARAH WAS A SUBMISSIVE AND SUPPORTIVE WIFE At 65, Sarah left the stability of life in Ur to live the nomadic life to follow God’s call alongside Abraham—a bold step of faith that showed her deep trust in God more than anything else. Her story reminds us that when both husband and wife are surrendered to God, they walk in unity—and God can work powerfully through them. SARAH WAS A WOMAN OF FAITH Sarah didn’t just follow Abraham—she chose to trust God for herself. Her faith, though imperfect, carried her through uncertainty, danger, and decades of waiting for a promised child. From a pagan past to a place in Hebrews’ Hall of Faith, Sarah’s story is one of courage, growth, and deep trust in God. SARAH WAS HOSPITABLE Though hospitality was a valued custom, Sarah’s commitment to it stands out—especially in a world where not everyone honored such values (like Sodom and Gomorrah). In Genesis 18, when three strangers appeared, Abraham ran to greet them, and Sarah quickly prepared food. Together, they offered generous hospitality—unaware they were serving Jesus and two angels. SARAH WAS AN EXPERT HOME MANAGER Sarah played a vital role in managing Abraham’s vast household. Though Abraham was incredibly wealthy, he didn’t run things alone. Sarah’s influence is clear—especially when he tells her to decide Hagar’s fate. In a time when women handled food, clothing, and daily operations, her leadership was essential to sustaining their large nomadic household. SARAH HAD THE CAPACITY TO FORGIVE Sarah had a harsh side—but she also had the capacity to forgive. After the conflict with Hagar, she could have rejected her return. Instead, Sarah allowed Hagar back, showing grace despite their strained relationship. Though things weren’t perfect, they managed to coexist for nearly 15 more years.
