The "Book 8088" is such a cool little machine - exactly the type of machine I've been wanting ... I can play the favourite games of my youth "on-the-go" as well as use my Andromeda Research Labs AR-32A EPROM programmer in a simple way. The end screen details the cost from Aliexpress ... AU$320 in 2024 Australian Dollars. Far more entertaining channels have reviewed the "Book 8088", so I thought it might be interesting to convert it to a "Боок К1810ВМ88" 😇 And, of course, @CPUGalaxy did an excellent comparison of the 8088 and the К1810ВМ88: • Soviet K1810VM88 VS Intel 8088 Benchm... The "Book 8088" comes with a beat-up looking NEC V20 but they've made it very simple to replace (as well as the BIOS ROM - highly recommended to replace!), and to also add an 8087 maths co-processor/FPU. Of course, the V20 performs slightly better than the К1810ВМ88, but overall the machine behaved as expected ... but with a cool-looking ceramic CPU of Soviet heritage. For the BIOS, I believe (?) that they were using a version of Sergey's BIOS (without attribution): https://github.com/skiselev/8088_bios Interestingly, Pac-Girl didn't work with this BIOS ... a known issue? Very curious. {Update: I installed Sergey's version of his BIOS for the Book 8088 and Pac-Girl now works!} Unfortunately I couldn't find the 12VAC power adaptor I need to use with my AR Labs AR32-A EPROM programmer, so will try that later. https://arlabs.com/
