Joshlin Smith trial I Jacquen Appollis takes the stand: Vanessa Poonah reports

The Joshlin Smith trial adjourned a short while ago with the first accused Jacquen Appollis, once more on the stand. Appollis was being questioned in the trial within trial on the claims that he was tortured by police, smothered with a black bag, and beaten with batons to confess. Both Appollis and his friend, Steveno Van Rhyn, want statements they made to police on the 5th of March last year declared inadmissible. Van Rhyn earlier said parts of his so-called confession and what he told the doctor about his injuries were not true. He says he gave those versions because he was threatened and afraid that he would face further assault or worse. We have roped in SABC News reporter Vanessa Poonah.
