This video explains the events that led to the death of a garbage truck driver after his vehicle struck an overpass. The incident investigation slide show uses animation and photos taken from the actual incident site. No graphic imagery is included. This slide show describes how a garbage truck driver failed to notice that his garbage box was raised after operating the switches on an unfamiliar truck. The raised box struck an overpass, which then fell on the truck and crushed the driver. This educational video is useful for use in health and safety training for workers in the garbage and recycling industry in British Columbia. It highlights risks garbage truck drivers should be aware of and how employers can reduce the potential for injury with appropriate safety training and feedback mechanisms.
