This stage played in Score Attack on Human difficulty with the R9A Arrowhead. My thoughts on the stage are below, if anyone is interested. I'd been thinking about this for a long time, playing each stage with the R9. In the past I'd gotten used to powerful ships like the Leo and Leo II. Not anymore. I played most of the stages on Bydo difficulty, and while some of them were quite rough, they were definitely manageable. Of note in stage 4.0 is something immediately noticeable. I'm playing this stage on Human difficulty. The reason isn't because the stage is hard; in fact, it's quite easy, and I had no trouble at all getting through it. It was the boss. Its projectiles move double the speed you see on Human difficulty if you play on Bydo or R-Typer. The first form of the boss, this is still no problem. The second part is a heart wrapped with debris, and the debris homes in on your ship's location from when it ejects from the heart. To make matters worse, when it hits the wall, it still homes in on your last location. There is a lot of debris, and it takes more than one hit to kill. In fact, several more hits. Add to this that you have to avoid the heart itself, which can at any moment launch more projectiles at you, and you're pretty well screwed, given how fast it all moves. I tried this many times on Bydo and failed every time, no matter what I did. This is the only stage that I played on Human for the 2011 Legendary R9 playlist. The rest were on Bydo, except for Summer Night, which I recorded in 2009, on R-Typer. The boss is the classic R-Type enemy, Dobkeratops, the very first boss from the original R-Type. Why is humanity experimenting on something so sick and twisted? And given that it is Bydo to begin with, you knew that it would be infected once the Bydo launched their attack. This stage is one of the few where the yellow weapon shines. Flying along the Bydo snake, you eventually end up over its head, where you can be perfectly positioned to drop the yellow lasers on its weak point. Not a whole lot to this stage overall. The quiet atmosphere is quite mood setting, and I enjoy it. It does give a false sense of security, given how rough the boss can be on you. *I love this ship, which is why it gets its own playlist. I played most of the stages on Bydo difficulty with the classic R-Type, and I got through each stage without dying. Playlist for R-Type Final - The Legendary R9: • R-Type Final - The Legendary R9
