This is the financial capital of the west coast? Aww San Francisco. It’s one of the finest cities in the country. Or was. Okay I won’t get too political here, but it’s an overpriced city with a lot of problems. But that seems to be more and more cities in this country these days, right? For this drive, we’re going to drive in downtown San Francisco. You can see it in the distance from where we are right now. This is Mission St. which cuts through the heart of the city. This isn’t gonna be a video that shows homelessness and bad stuff, though you might get a peek at some of that a few times. This is strictly a view of downtown with a discussion about the city in general. You won’t see a lot of the negative stuff you hear about in this video, though it will soon be discussed. You can see video footage of the homelessness and poverty in other videos I did about SF. The downtown area itself is pleasant enough. It’s a really pretty city if you’re in the right part of town, and on the morning I was here, I was lucky - there was no rain and even some sunlight. It was in late October in 2021 right after rush hour was over. The area we’re going to get to soon is San Francisco’s Financial District, but we’ll bounce around into other parts of downtown near that area. Currently, we’re in a neighborhood called SoMa, or south of market. Even though we’re ON market. The area we’re in now is dotted with high end shopping, condos, museums and major software and internet companies. Yelp, AirBnb, Uber, Trulia, LinkedIn and other recognizable companies make this neighborhood their headquarters. There were once cable cars which ran right down the middle of the street we're driving on now. Let’s drive for a bit and then we’ll talk about the next part of town when we get there. Okay so right now we’re entering the financial district of San Francisco. This is where all the big bucks are. This part of town serves as the main central business district in town. All six of San Francisco’s fortune 500 companies are located in this district we’re heading to now. Now, San Francisco has changed a lot since the 1980s. You might recall there was a big earthquake here in 1989 destroyed a lot of buildings here - most notably residential homes just north of where we are now in the Marina District. After the recovery from the earthquake came the technology boom. Now where we are in San Francisco isn’t part of the Silicon Valley - that begins about 20 or so miles south of here. But there are still a ton of startups and tech companies in this part of town. Because so many tech companies have relocated to the area, the cost of living has jumped dramatically here, making it very difficult for people to afford to live in the city. Just a decade ago, rent in San Francisco was closer to $1,000 on average. Today, it’s closer to $3,000. That means a lot of workers have to live across the bay near Oakland where it’s far cheaper. And, the average home price in San Francisco is close to $1.5 million dollars. That’s by far the most expensive home price of all US cities. And you know about all the homelessness and drug use here. I’ve covered that many times before. However, most of the homeless in this city are victims of addiction and mental illness, not because of the cost of living. It’s really a pretty city in most areas. The architecture in many neighborhoods is really neat. There’s parks and pretty views all over the place. There’s so much culture here, and a lot of smart people trying to change the world. And within a short drive, you can experience a lot, too. #california #moving You can buy my music here: iTunes: / state-songs-an-album More places to get my music: -Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/music/a... -Amazon Music: https://music.amazon.com/albums/B08D3...
