Revealing the Ninth Master: A Conversation with Romail Gulzar

Wolverhampton filmmaker Hamraj “Flex” Singh has created what’s believed to be the world’s first English‑language Sikh superhero film, The Ninth Master. The movie premiered to a sold‑out crowd in Slough and is already gaining global interest. The film follows an orphan who becomes a warrior through discipline, kindness and inner strength. Singh, who wrote, directed and stars in the film, says his own experiences of racism shaped the story, and his faith kept him driven during the four‑year production. Blending Samurai, Spartan, Viking and Sikh warrior traditions, the film aims to bring fresh representation to the big screen. Requests for screenings are coming in from India, Canada and the US, and Singh hopes this is the first step towards taking Sikh‑led stories to Hollywood.
