The Day of Surgery: Rapid Recovery Hip Replacement

This video takes you through what will happen on the day of your surgery. You will be assisted into a theatre gown and into bed when your pre-medication is due. Theatre staff will collect you from the ward and take you to the operating theatre. Following surgery the AV boots, Wedge and dressing will be present. You will also have an intravenous infusion 'drip', an oxygen mask and occasionally a wound drain. Nerve blocks inserted by the Anaesthetist in the operating theatre may leave your leg temporarily feeling weak and numb when you wake up. You will remain in the Recovery Area until your condition is stable and your pain is well controlled. On your return to the ward nursing staff will make regular observation of your temperature, blood pressure, pulse and will monitor pain control and give you pain relief as appropriate. You will be allowed to gradually recommence fluids and diet. You will be assisted with all your hygiene needs. You will be able to sit out of bed if you feel well enough.
