Federal election candidates are set to launch their campaigns across Canada this weekend as the country anticipates its 45th general election to formally get underway on Sunday. Prime Minister Mark Carney is yet to settle on the day but his recent social media post referencing a song by Blue Rodeo may offer a hint. Chinese tariffs on Canadian goods took effect Thursday, targeting one of Canada’s most lucrative exports – seafood. With the United States, China accounts for over 80 per cent of all Canadian seafood exports, an industry worth nearly eight billion dollars in 2023. The impact is expected to be significant, with the Atlantic Lobster, which comprises the largest portion of the export market, suffering the most. Heidi Petracek has the story.
