Musala (Bulgarian: Мусала). The names comes from Arabic through Ottoman Turkish which meant "near God" or "place for prayer". Standing at 2925 meters, it is the highest peak in Bulgaria and the Balkan Peninsula. The trail to Musala is one of the two most popular trails in Rila Mountains and in the whole Bulgaria. The weather forecast showed 99% chances of rain almost the whole day, with occasional thunderstorms. We decided to take the Yastrabets gondola up to Yastrebets hut and see if we can find an opportunity to reach the summit in one of our last days in Bulgaria, during August 2022.
