Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women (MMIW) is a National Crisis and Genocide currently happening within Canada. In 2019, Reclaiming Power and Place: The Final Report of the National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls was released. The National Inquiry’s Final Report reveals that persistent and deliberate human and Indigenous rights violations and abuses are the root cause behind Canada’s staggering rates of violence against Indigenous women, girls and 2SLGBTQQIA people. The two volume report calls for transformative legal and social changes to resolve the crisis that has devastated Indigenous communities across the country. It delivers 231 individual Calls for Justice directed at governments, institutions, social service providers, industries and all Canadians. Little action has been taken to implement these calls to action but we can not wait. Cynthia shares about the many women in her life that have been taken from her and the power of having a name. Herself a survivor of violence, Cythina has been an advocate in her community for over 25 years before Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and and 2SLGBTQQIA people had a name.
