During the early days of consumer desktop 3D printers scores of companies entered the market, including some big names in the hardware space. 3D Systems, an established 3D printer company for industry, entered the consumer market with their Cube series of 3D printers. The CubeX series was 3D Systems premium line of 3D printers, 3D Systems being on the few companies in the 3D printer space that was not a startup offered a 3D printer with superior mechanics, larger build volume, and up to 3 printheads. However despite the 4 figure price tag is was a CubeX was a huge disappointment some customers got so frustrated they ripped out 3D Systems electronics and added their own, turning a 3D printer made by a corporation in factory, into a RepRap machine.
