Take a walk with me around the breathtaking Concorde G-BOAD at the Intrepid in New York. April 2025. Tours inside are available for an additional cost. I took one about 10 years ago and was able to get some video inside: Flight Deck: • Inside the Flight Deck of the British Airw... Interior: • Interior of the British Airways Concorde G... Concorde G-BOAD registration 210 was the first production Concorde built in the UK in 1976. This supersonic passenger jet could fly at over twice the speed of sound. It briefly flew in a Singapore Airlines livery in 1979. After the Concorde fleet was grounded following the 2000 Paris crash, G-BOAD returned to service in 2002 and participated in the Queen's Jubilee Flypast. In October 2003, it set the record for the fastest East-to-West transatlantic crossing. Its final flight was on November 10, 2003, to New York JFK. G-BOAD is now a permanent exhibit at the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in Manhattan, having been transported there by barge. It was temporarily moved and sustained minor damage before returning to the Intrepid, where this first production Concorde with its unique history is now on display in New York City. The Concorde was a joint project between Great Britain and France, with the first prototypes flying in 1969. It used an ogive delta wing and powerful Rolls-Royce/SNECMA Olympus engines with afterburners to achieve Mach 2.04 at high altitudes. It was the first commercial airliner with an analog fly-by-wire system. Flying on Concorde was a luxurious experience focused on speed. However, high operating costs, noise restrictions, the 2000 Paris crash, and declining demand led to its retirement in 2003. Despite its short service life, Concorde remains a symbol of innovation in aviation. ~ Thank you for liking, commenting, and subscribing.
