Our day continues from Part 43, and starts with the end of the early flight from Perth (WA). We landed at 12:30, hungry after our early rise, so after getting our bags and rental car we had lunch asap. After that we headed north, towards Wangaratta, where we'll stay 2 nights. I was very tired so we took a 40 minutes pause at Grasstree Rest Area. We didn't get many birds there: Magpie, Superb Fairywren and Grey Shrikethrush + Rufous Whistler as a Heard Only. Oh, and the toilet came in handy as well... At 5 PM we checked in at Gardenview Lodge Motel in Wangaratta, dumped our bags and then drove to Boggy Bridge in Winton Wetlands. Duade Paton had recommended that as a good starting point. It was, we got two Rail-species out in the open: Australian and Baillon's Crake. We heard our first certified Australian Reed Warbler, but didn't see any this evening. We followed Boggy Bridge Rd and saw a few Red-rumped Parrots and our first Eastern Rosella. The last Lifer for the day was Rufous Songlark. 00:00 Flight approaching Melbourne 03:51 Touchdown + itinerary for today 04:42 Transport to Wangaratta, including a combined toilet & birding stop along the way 05:23 Birding Winton Wetlands
