PRE-ORDER YOUR LIMITED EDITION 'FRACTURES' 12'' VINYL NOW - VIA BANDCAMP! https://joegaluszka.bandcamp.com/merc... Bristol-based composer, conductor, and instrumentalist Joe Galuszka continues to make a striking first impression with the release of ‘Liberation’, the second single from his debut EP, Fractures. Mixed by Alex Garden (Tarren) and mastered by Nick Cooke (Britannia, Temple), the EP explores themes of grief, resilience, memory, and emotional transformation, with tracks released incrementally as part of an evolving artistic statement. Galuszka’s journey in music began in Buckinghamshire, where he taught himself piano before studying trumpet, horn, and tuba. He holds a BMus in Music from Canterbury Christ Church University and an MA in Composition for Film and Television from the University of Bristol. Over the years, Joe has composed for orchestras and brass bands, scored over 15 films and documentaries, and won Gold at the London Independent Film Awards for his debut wildlife documentary soundtrack Firekeepers of Kakadu. He was also recently nominated for Best Original Score in a Short at the International Sound and Film Music Festival for A Sin de Fella Story. ‘Liberation’ is a deeply moving neoclassical work that expands the emotional world of Fractures, blending intimate piano writing with slowly unfolding string textures and a restrained, elegiac atmosphere. The piece was inspired by a visit Joe made with his father to Auschwitz in 2019 — an experience that profoundly shaped the emotional and conceptual core of the track. Rather than attempting to depict events directly, Liberation reflects on the fragile space between remembrance and hope, acknowledging the weight of history while gesturing quietly towards renewal. Sonically, the track sits comfortably alongside the work of contemporary composers such as Max Richter, Ólafur Arnalds, and Hania Rani, yet retains a distinctive emotional directness that feels deeply personal. Joe performs piano and subtle melodic figures himself, supported by Bristol Ensemble string players, allowing the music to breathe with restraint and intention. As Galuszka explains: “‘Liberation’ isn’t about illustrating history — it’s about responding to it emotionally. It reflects on what it means to carry memory, grief, and responsibility, while still choosing to move forward. That tension sits at the heart of the entire Fractures project.” With ‘Liberation’ and the forthcoming EP Fractures, Joe Galuszka further establishes himself as a compelling new voice in contemporary ambient classical music — one rooted in emotional honesty, social reflection, and the quiet power of restraint.
