PokeWeb 1.0: A Fandom History of the Early Internet

In the late 1990s, it was impossible to avoid Pokémon. No matter where you went in real life, the craze was being talked about by someone. Even if you escaped into virtual reality, on the nascent Internet, the growth of Pokémon as a fan culture made it an inevitability. And then, in 2001, that suddenly changed. This is the story of the first iteration of the Pokémon fandom; its rise, fall, trials and tribulations, but most importantly, its transformation.
