Caesars: A Guide to the Band Behind 'Jerk It Out' (and much more!)

In June 2005, Americans tuning in to Late Night with Conan O'Brien saw a young, up-and-coming band called Caesars perform their new single 'Jerk It Out'. Except they weren't actually all that young. And while the song had recently become a hit, it had already been released multiple years earlier. The story of Caesars isn't particularly tragic or shocking, but if you don't know much about them beyond their best-known song, then you may be in for a few surprises. After childhood best friends César Vidal and Joakim Åhlund formed the band, it was a long road to Jerk It Out becoming known worldwide. A road filled with multiple name changes, misconceptions, recordings of varying production quality, and a whole lotta '60s revivalism, particularly of the psychedelic kind.
