May 18th Ukraine commemorates Crimean Tatars who were victims of the forced deportation orchestrated by the Soviet Union beginning in 1944. On this day, Crimean Tatars were forcibly removed from their homeland. In just two first days - there were around 200 000 people deported. By the 1960s, ethnic cleansing resulted in deaths of half of the Crimean Tatar people but did not stop at that point. The action by the Soviet Union is today considered by Ukraine to be a genocide. In our next report, we recount the tragedy on May 18th, starting with scenes from the film "Haytarma", as footage taken by Soviet authorities remains classified to this day. _ Subscribe to UATV English: https://goo.gl/VHU7bk Facebook: / uatven Twitter: / uatv_en Instagram: / uatv.en Watch UATV live: http://eng.uatv.ua/
