Soldier being taken on stretcher to helicopter 6. Helicopter flying off STORYLINE: One Israeli soldier was killed and another seriously injured on Monday when clashes broke out between soldiers and Palestinians in the West Bank town of Nablus. Witnesses said gunfire broke out in downtown Nablus, as Palestinian gunmen apparently fired on soldiers who responded with live ammunition. Black smoke rose from one building, and Palestinian sources claim a family were trapped on the roof as fire fighters attempted to reach the building. Helicopters and military ambulances arrived at the scene. The incident came after a tense day in the West Bank's largest town that saw two children killed and numerous other Palestinians wounded. Earlier in the day an 11-year-old Palestinian boy was killed in the Balata refugee camp near Nablus when soldiers enforcing a curfew fired from tanks at children who threw stones while on their way to school. The military said soldiers had fired at a youth who was about to throw a firebomb. The second boy to die was a 10-year-old who was shot when soldiers fired at people throwing stones, in Nablus itself. Twenty-five other people were injured during the incident, according to Palestinian security officials and witnesses. The military had no comment.
