Siew Yun Ysi, who studied anthropology from her Bachelor's degree to PhD, is a bioarchaeologist. She first encountered the shock of philosophical reflection through the guidance of her teacher and discovered how fascinating the pursuit of knowledge can be. After earning her doctorate, she began teaching and conducting research, yet she still couldn't answer the deeper questions within herself: "Who am I?" "Where do I come from?" This prompted her to volunteer in Nepal, where she witnessed the struggles and poverty women face, leading her to realize that humans are, in many ways, creations of society. As a result, she committed herself to improving society through philosophical reflection. Upon returning to Malaysia, she initiated the "Reverse Philosophy Classroom." She came up with the concept of the “flipped philosophy classroom” after reading Sophie’s World as a high school student. Her philosophy classes are captivating and devoted to guiding students to think independently - a kind of “reverse thinking” - which subverts the traditional classroom expectation of students listening to teachers talking. Her body of philosophical concepts goes beyond traditional adult-oriented theories in the discipline to incorporate the novel and less well-known philosophy for children. Dr Siew has proposed a theoretical system in which philosophy can be aimed at both children and adults, embodying the professionalism and humanism sought out in modern philosophy.
