Paterson Recognized for Excellence in Data Use with What Works Cities Certification Only 32 cities achieved the What Works Cities Certification distinction Paterson, NJ—Tuesday, February 3, 2026, Mayor Andre Sayegh will join Results for America and Bloomberg Philanthropies for the awarding of the What Works Cities Silver Certification, recognizing the City’s strong data practices used to inform policy, allocate funding, improve services, evaluate programs, and engage residents. The What Works Cities Certification standard reflects the practices, policies, and infrastructure municipalities must have in place to effectively harness data for better decision-making. Led by Results for America and supported by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the What Works Cities Certification is the international standard for data-driven local government. The Certification evaluates municipalities across 43 criteria measuring how effectively cities use data and evidence in decision-making. Cities achieving 51–67% of the criteria are awarded Silver Certification, and Paterson’s recognition reflects the City’s continued commitment to transparency, efficiency, and improved outcomes for residents. These criteria have increased in rigor over time, meaning that achieving Silver Certification in 2025 reflects significantly higher standards than in earlier years and underscores Paterson’s continued growth in data excellence.
