The song Young Romance is a fundamentally a song that wrote itself. Between 2009 and 2011, I experienced one of the most prolific and unforgettable creative periods of my life. I was in my mid to late 20's and had just moved back from Montreal to Toronto. I had a wonderful theatre space downtown at my disposal. It was one of those "first you build it and then they come" scenarios. A crew of like minded individuals, mostly Eastern European youth, gathered here almost every other day for what (at the time) was called ‘Cultural Debauchery’ nights. These nights were similar to what the 60's had as ‘The Happenings’, but without any politics or dogma involved. At one of the very first events, when we were painting the walls with psychedelic frescos, I was introduced to Eugene Fed (aka. Le Russe). He played electric cello and originally came from the same neighbourhood as me in Moscow. We jammed that night for hours, as people stood there amazed at how quickly we clicked. We both enjoyed improvising pseudo neo-classical fluff together and just exploring music without any agenda. This friendship led to 3 intense years of writing and playing together almost daily. This video is a trip down memory lane. Created by my good friend Filly Silver from MempoStudios, who was there from the very beginning, and is responsible for some of the best videos and photos of my career. I cannot lie, but I was extremely teary when I watched the video the first two times. It was such a beautiful time in my life that seems like a golden mist. However, it left as quickly as it came, and I am honoured and grateful to have met so many wonderful people that are still to this day my friends and colleagues.
