Renting a car gave me the freedom to explore at my own pace, and the drive from Bhubaneswar to Puri was a smooth and scenic experience, with wide highways and beautiful countryside views. 🚘💨 If you’re traveling in Odisha, a self-drive car is one of the best ways to discover hidden gems along the route. Exploring Raghurajpur – Odisha’s Craft Heritage Before reaching #puri , I made a stop at the famous Raghurajpur Craft Village, located just a short detour from the main road. This village is a living testament to Odisha’s rich cultural heritage, known for its exquisite Pattachitra paintings, a traditional art form dating back to 5 BC. The village is also famous for its Tussar paintings, palm leaf engravings, stone and wood carvings, and unique papier-mâché toys and masks. Walking through the village, I interacted with local artisans who shared stories about their crafts and demonstrated their intricate work. It’s incredible to witness how these ancient skills have been passed down through generations! If you’re an art lover or history enthusiast, Raghurajpur is a must-visit. 🎨🖼️ Puri Blue Flag Beach – A Serene Retreat After soaking in the rich art of Raghurajpur, I headed to Puri’s Blue Flag Beach, one of the cleanest and most environmentally sustainable beaches in India. The Blue Flag certification is a prestigious eco-label awarded to beaches that meet stringent environmental, educational, safety, and accessibility standards. 🏖️💧 The beach is perfect for a peaceful escape, with clear blue waters and soft sands. It’s a far cry from the usual crowded beaches, offering a serene atmosphere where you can unwind, take long walks, or just enjoy the sunset. 🌅 Odia Sweets – Khaja & Chhena Poda No trip to Puri is complete without tasting the famous Odia sweets. First, I stopped by Nrusingha Sweets to try the crispy, sugary Khaja, a traditional sweet associated with the Jagannath Temple’s Mahaprasad. Khaja is light, flaky, and simply melts in your mouth! 😋 Next up was the delicious Chhena Poda from Puri Sweets. Chhena Poda, meaning “baked cheese,” is a unique dessert made from well-kneaded cottage cheese (chhena), sugar, and semolina, baked to perfection. It’s believed to be Lord Jagannath’s favorite sweet, so don’t miss it when you’re in Puri! 🍮🧀 Staying at Shakti International Hotel – Comfort in the Heart of Puri After indulging in the local sweets, I checked into my hotel, Shakti International, conveniently located on VIP Road, Puri. The hotel offers modern amenities, clean rooms, and excellent service, making it a great choice for travelers. After freshening up, I headed out for the main event of my trip—the Jagannath Temple. 🏨🛏️ Jagannath Puri Temple – A Spiritual Experience The Jagannath Temple is one of the most sacred temples in India, dedicated to Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple’s architectural grandeur is awe-inspiring, and the atmosphere inside is deeply spiritual. Thousands of devotees visit this temple daily to offer prayers and seek blessings. A unique tradition tied to the temple is the Ratha Yatra (Chariot Festival), where Lord Jagannath, along with his siblings Balabhadra and Subhadra, are taken on a grand procession through the streets of Puri. The temple is also believed to house Lord Krishna’s heart, a story deeply intertwined with Puri’s spiritual legacy.
