EPISODE 7 - The Heroes of Longhope Welcome to the seventh episode of The Orkney Series! Over the past few weeks, Jeana and Kristan have been travelling around the islands we're lucky enough to call home, having a blast of some Orcadian tunes and songs in the very places that inspired their names! We hope you enjoy the journey along with us. Filming this week’s episode, has been one of our most humbling experiences to date, and we'd like to thank everybody at the Longhope Lifeboat Museum for their kindness and hospitality during our time with them. We sailed away from the Orkney mainland this week, taking the boat to Hoy - one of the 70 plus smaller isles that make up the Orkney archipelago. There, we headed to the Longhope Lifeboat Museum meeting some of the crew of the RNLI Longhope Lifeboat, to hear about the tragic event that inspired Ronnie Aim’s beautiful piece, ‘The Heroes of Longhope’. As ever, our film is focused mainly around musical offerings, but the loss of the Longhope Lifeboat and her crew in 1969 was, and remains, one of Orkney's worst maritime disasters.
