(19 Sep 2016) Dozens of supporters of the right-wing Hindu party Shiv Sena took to the streets of New Delhi on Monday calling for an attack on Pakistan. The protest came after suspected rebels using guns and grenades sneaked into a crucial army base in Indian-controlled Kashmir on Sunday and killed at least 17 soldiers, according to the army. Four rebels were killed as the soldiers returned gunfire after the surprise assault before dawn on the base, located near the highly militarised Line of Control dividing Kashmir between India and Pakistan. It was the deadliest attack on a military base in the disputed Himalayan region in recent years, the army said. Protesters in New Delhi burned a Pakistani national flag and an effigy of Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif, blaming the neighbouring country for the recent attack on the army base in Indian-controlled Kashmir. India accuses Pakistan of training the militants in its territory, then helping them to infiltrate into the Indian side. Islamabad denies the charge, saying it only gives political and diplomatic support to the rebels.
