As you probably know you can get metal coat by using move Thief on Magnemite in route Route 38 in 2nd generation of Pokemon games. You need metal coat if you want to get Scizor and Steelix, also you can farm more than 1 metal coat if you want to make their steel type moves stronger and give them metal coat to hold, because when you use metal coat to evolve Onix and Scyther they consume it. Move Thief is tm 46 and you can find it in Team Rocket's Hideout in Mahogany Town. If your pokemon hold no item while you pick up item with Thief the picked item will be that pokemon's hold item, if you already hold item the item you pick up will end up in your item pocket (just make sure that you have space for that item).
