On October 17, 2021, I decided to head over to Surrey’s Cloverdale area to attempt to capture the FVHR’s special Halloween run with former BCER interurban car 1225. This was also their final run for the 2021 season along SRY’s Fraser Valley Sub. After they departed the former Cloverdale station, I went over to this crossing to finally get a video of it. After waiting for about 10 minutes, BCER 1225 showed up and then the crossing activated! BCER 1225 was built in 1912, and restored in 2013. This crossing despite being a modern SRY install (with a few reused equipment) looks very neat compared to other crossings. Originally this crossing was a pair of crossbucks a long time ago, but was upgraded sometime around the late 1990s to a pair of gated signals, with the northern side being a split mast setup, similar to those along former L&N lines and a few crossings along the CP Cascade Sub. Those signals featured Safetran 8" Incandescent lights, and the gate mast on the northern side featured a WCH Mechanical Bell. The Safetran 8" lights were replaced with Harmon 12x20" Harmon Fading LED lights between 2009 and 2011. The crossing remained unchanged all the way up until 2019, when a very short section of 168 Street was widened to three lanes to accommodate extra turning lanes. Therefore, the crossing was upgraded with the current equipment. However, the gate masts were reused from the old setup, but received new gate arms, lights and a new bell (now being relocated to the southern side of the crossing).
