In May 2021 I was very fortunate to be able to travel down to Draft Wheelchairs, in Huntingdon just outside of Cambridge, to get fitted for a Carbonbike R-2020, a very special handcycle indeed. Chris Madden was kind enough to let me film the process, which I thought some people might appreciate as there is very little media regarding the process or carbonbikes in general. In this video we discuss the different models available and general fitting process, and various other topics including but not limited to: pros and cons of 1x vs 2x chainrings, 20" vs 26" wheels, electronic shifting, crank/fork length, pedal options, and much more. As the video was filmed by my parents (who are only a few steps behind Spielberg in terms of film direction skills) it is fairly rough, but I decided to just upload the whole unedited video for those who may find it interesting and/or useful. At the time of visit the rough build time was 6-8 weeks + for several reasons. Firstly, COVID (so many people have taken to cycling during the pandemic that many common parts are now out of stock for months!). Secondly, Brexit (Carbonbike is an American company and Draft Wheelchairs is the only UK supplier). Thirdly, the Olympics this year mean athletes are also looking to source parts/equipment and probably take priority over the likes of me! Any questions I will be happy to try and answer, and once again a big thanks to Chris Madden at Draft for letting me film.
