Ep. 254 – DISASTER & TRIUMPH: Sculptural Mosaic Raindrop Repair + Installation! This week in my mosaic studio, I hit a major snag—and overcame it. With two and a half sculptural raindrop mosaics completed (created during a Pal Tiya workshop with Maria Sarmiento), I was just one step away from finishing the third… when disaster struck. My sculptural substrate snapped in two! What followed was a full-day repair process using alkali-resistant fiberglass mesh tape and thinset mortar, with lots of patience and sanding in between. Once repaired, I moved into the turquoise smalti transition, blending color to bring the raindrop back to life. After an overnight cure, I installed the piece on copper-clad rebar in front of a stunning hydrangea—pure garden magic!
