Jackie Manthorne, President and CEO of the Canadian Cancer Survivor Network and Mona Forrest, Board Secretary, introduced their new organisation to PCCN Ottawa members with a view of how we can work together. The Canadian Cancer Survivor Network (CCSN) is a national network of patients, families, survivors, friends, community partners, funders and sponsors who have come together to take action to promote the very best standards of care, whether it be early diagnosis, timely treatment and follow-up care, support for cancer patients, or issues related to survivorship or quality of end of life care. CCSN Mission Empower collaborative action by cancer patients, families and communities to identify and work to remove barriers to optimal patient care. Ensure that cancer survivors have access to education and action opportunities to have their voices heard in planning and implementing an optimal health care system. Educate the public and policy makers about the financial, emotional and health costs of cancer and offer considered, positive ideas and recommendations to alleviate their effects. Research and encourage research on ways to alleviate barriers to optimal patient care and follow-up. CCSN Objectives Promote and encourage advocacy among survivors and patients. Work with government and all political parties to educate and promote positive and considered policy ideas that will result in an optimum experience for cancer patients and survivors in the health care system. With empowered survivors as our advocates and partners, we bring a practical perspective to the discussion.
