You guys know I love mindset shifts right? Congrats to the class of 2020. You graduated from 4 years of dental school and perhaps residency. The clock starts NOW on paying back your student loans. If you have dental parents who can hook you up with a job, (that must be nice), but not everyone is in that position. You gotta find a job..you gotta nail that job interview. Now I know it sucks to spend 300k-550k on an education that doesn't guarantee work but that is even more reason for you to evolve your mindset of how things work out in the real world. And if you are thinking "JOYCE YOUR PARENTS ARE DENTISTS". My mom sold her practice before I graduated from dental school. I was out in New York (rebelling) far from family or anyone I knew and I was determined to stay there without the help of my parents. I had NO JOB experience in any aspect of life except for Pacific Sunwear in HS. In the beginning I took the most ghetto jobs that were out in the middle of Queens ( a 2 hour subway commute from Manhattan). Real talk: there is a bit of faking it til you make it in the beginning. But after several jobs, I knew my worth. I knew what I brought to the table and I knew what to ask for. I ended up with a really well paying job (probably made more than I do as a practice owner) at a spa like practice in Manhattan. You all will go through this process too!
