The ingenuity of the rats in hiding and safe spots never ceases to amaze me. There is no question in the intelligence of the rats or how they know their home environment. You learn a lot about drainage and construction methods when hunting rats as you follow them closely with the dogs. After locating a rta in the pipe we carried out to a open space to minimize the chance of the rat escaping ,and did everything we could to bolt the rat before searching for the PVC stick to push it out. Large rats jump extremely well and bite hard and you can see the rat employ all his survival techniques in a effort to avoid e-rat-tification. You also notice the dogs sometimes toss rats to avoid being bitten and take a new grip behind the head. In the end the inevitable happens, one more dog caught, dog dispatched rat, dead in my bucket.
