Four hundred and sixty-one employees have joined the Communications Workers of America, according to the union's announcement. The newly formed union, known as ZOS United-CWA, includes web developers, designers, engineers, and graphic artists. While many of the union members are located in Maryland, they also reside in states like California, New York, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin. Microsoft, the owner of ZeniMax, has already formally recognized the union, adhering to its Labor Neutrality Agreement. According to a post on Bluesky, the union seeks to improve job security, gain protection against artificial intelligence, and secure better pay and benefits within the gaming industry. ZOS United is the latest in a growing list of gaming studios that have unionized, particularly under Microsoft’s neutrality policy. This year alone, several other groups have unionized including Bethesda Game Studios in the U.S., Bethesda Games Studios Montreal, ZeniMax QA workers, Blizzard's World of Warcraft team, and Activision QA workers. Recent years have also seen unions formed at other studios like Blizzard Albany, Raven Software, and Sega of America.
